Welcome to BeforeDepart. These Terms govern your use of www.beforedepart.com and the BeforeDepart service, operated by BeforeDepart LLC ("BeforeDepart", "we", "us"). By using the site, you agree to these Terms.

BeforeDepart is a destination intelligence service. We help you learn about places before you travel - safety, transport, stays, food, local customs, emergency numbers, attractions, camping and cruises. We provide information and links to third-party partners. We are not a travel agency and we do not sell, book, or provide travel, lodging, camping, cruise, or transport services ourselves.

We work to keep our information useful, but prices, hours, availability, rules, and other details change often and can be wrong or out of date. Everything on BeforeDepart - including cost estimates and campground or cruise details - is a guide only. Always confirm important details (prices, bookings, entry rules, safety, emergency numbers) with the official source before you rely on them or travel.

Some links on BeforeDepart are affiliate links. If you click them and make a purchase or booking on a partner site, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. This helps keep BeforeDepart free. Your purchase, booking, and any related contract is between you and that partner.

When you leave BeforeDepart for a partner site (such as a hotel, tour, insurance, eSIM, car rental, campsite, or cruise provider), that site's own terms and privacy policy apply. We are not responsible for the products, services, content, prices, or actions of third parties.

Some features let you create an account to save trips and notes. You are responsible for keeping your password safe and for activity under your account. Tell us right away if you think your account has been used without permission. You must give accurate information and be old enough to form a binding contract where you live.

You agree not to misuse the service - for example, by trying to break, overload, copy, scrape, or interfere with the site, using it for unlawful purposes, or infringing the rights of others.

The BeforeDepart name, logo, design, and original content are owned by BeforeDepart LLC and may not be copied or used without our permission. Third-party names and logos belong to their owners.

BeforeDepart is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, to the fullest extent allowed by law. We do not promise the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that the information is complete or accurate.

To the fullest extent allowed by law, BeforeDepart LLC is not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential losses, or for any loss arising from your reliance on information, your use of partner sites, or your travel decisions. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the amount you paid us (if any) in the past 12 months.

We may update the service or these Terms from time to time. Continued use after changes means you accept the updated Terms.

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia, USA, without regard to conflict-of-law rules.

This Privacy Policy explains how BeforeDepart LLC ("BeforeDepart", "we", "us") handles information when you use www.beforedepart.com.

Account information: if you create an account, we collect your email address and a display name, and store a securely hashed version of your password - we never see your raw password.
Trips you save: destinations, dates, traveler counts, notes, and any booking links you add.
Approximate location: to show camping near you, we may detect your approximate location from your internet (IP) address, or your precise location if you tap "Use my location" and allow it in your browser. You can decline.
Usage information: basic technical data such as device and browser type and pages viewed, to keep the site working and improve it.

We use your information to provide and improve the service, save your trips, send account emails (such as sign-up verification and password resets), keep the site secure, and respond to your messages.

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with service providers who help us run BeforeDepart, and only as needed: hosting, database and accounts (Supabase and our website host) and email delivery (Resend, for verification and password-reset emails). When you click an affiliate or partner link and leave our site, the partner handles your information under their own privacy policy, which we do not control.

We use a small amount of browser storage and cookies to keep you signed in and remember basic preferences. You can clear these in your browser settings.

We keep your account information while your account is active. You can ask us to delete your account and data at any time by emailing info@beforedepart.com.

You can view or update your profile, delete saved trips, decline location sharing, and request deletion of your account. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights over your data; contact us to use them.

We use reasonable measures to protect your information, including encrypted connections and hashed passwords. No method is perfectly secure, but we work to keep your data safe.

BeforeDepart is intended for adults and is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age in your country). We do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has given us data, contact us and we will remove it.

We may update this policy from time to time. The "last updated" date shows the latest version.
